Chiropractor Sharpsburg GA – 9 Simple things To Support Your Immune System

immune systemIn this weeks video health tip, Dr. Samir Hajariwala, director of Crossroads Chiropractic, takes a look at how to support your immune system.

World health officials indicate those most affected by COVID-19 are older adults and people with underlying medical conditions or weak immune systems.

The one of the thing you can do to protect yourself is to take preventive measures and build immunity.

Here are some things you can do to support your immune system.

Eat whole foods. Your immune system relies on nutrient-dense whole foods to function well including: vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds, and lean protein.

Cut out sugar and refined starches. Studies have shown refined sugars can suppress your immune system for hours after ingesting.

Ensure adequate protein intake.  Protein is critical for immune function and protein malnutrition is a big risk factor for death from infections.

Eat your fruits and vegetables. Eat multiple servings of colorful fruits and vegetables high in vitamins C, A, and phytonutrients that support the immune system.

Eat fermented foods.  Fermented foods support your microbiome and immunity. Eat sauerkraut, kimchi, miso, tempeh, unsweetened yogurt, and kefir.

Drink plenty of fluids, Consuming adequate fluids supports all your body’s functions including the immune system.

Get quality sleep. Sleep restores and heals the body. Without adequate sleep, optimal immune function is impossible.

Get daily exercise. Mild to moderate exercise (for approximately 30-45 minutes) helps boost the immune system.

Get regular chiropractic care.
