Chiropractor Sharpsburg GA - Lifestyle more important than your genes?

DNAIn this weeks video health tip, Dr. Samir Hajariwala, director of Crossroads Chiropractic, takes a look at how you live your life may be more important than your genes when it comes to your health.

Studies in the new field of Epigenetics are showing lifestyle factors can override any limitations of your genes.

The term epigenetics means “above” genetics, the external modifications to DNA that turn genes on or off.

You inherit your genes from your parents, but many factors during your lifetime can turn your negative genes off and your positive on.

Researchers found that a lifetime of exercise is likely to give you the body characteristics of a healthy athlete, while an inactive lifestyle can give you body characteristics associated with increased risk for many diseases.

Research is showing regardless of your genes you can improve your health and prolong your life by:
• Exercising every day
• Controlling excess weight gain
• Eating a healthful diet that includes a variety of vegetables, fruits, nuts, whole grains, beans, and seeds
• Avoiding smoking
• Restricting alcohol
• Getting regular chiropractic care

Remember you and your family can be as healthy as can be, and it’s never too soon to start receiving chiropractic care. Your best source for everything health is your chiropractor.  It’s never too early or late to see the team at Crossroads Chiropractic.
