Chiropractor Sharpsburg GA - Can Exercise Really Keep You Young?

In this weeks video health tip, Dr. Matthew Davis, director of Crossroads Chiropractic, takes a look at what appears to be a link between regular exercise, described as 3 to 4 times per week and warding off the process of our aging bodies.

I’m sure that it’s not really surprising to you that recent studies show us that staying active as you age will keep us healthy, especially when it comes to our muscles and immune systems.

Unfortunately, when it is probably the most important time in our lives to stay active, as we reach middle age and beyond, we seem to stop exercise and even decrease activity.

Only about 10% of us beyond 65 have a regular exercise regieme. Because of this low percentage of activity, most of the analysis we use on aging is based on people that are sedentary. Therefore, do we really know what “normal” aging is?

The study follows a few dozens male and female weekend cyclists, ages of 55 and 79, cycling for decades, and still pedaled about 400 miles per month.

While most people’s muscle health and immune response worsen after middle age, with the effects accelerating decade by decade, the cyclists proved to have reflexes, memories, balance and metabolic profiles that more closely resembled those of 30-year-olds.

This is very convincing data that implies that staying active is one of the best ways to keep you physically and mentally young and healthy.
