Chiropractor Sharpsburg GA - Children and Reflux

In this weeks video health tip, Dr. Matthew Davis & Dr. Samir Hajariwala, directors of Crossroads Chiropractic, take a look the success of treating reflux in young children by eliminating cow’s milk.

More than 40% of infants with reflux (excessive spitting up and vomiting) can be successfully treated with cow’s milk removal.

Breastfed infants have a similar success rate when eliminating cow’s milk and eggs from the mother’s diet.

Cow’s milk not only affects infants and young children, but also contributes to chronic fatigue syndrome in adolescence.

Eosinophilic esophagitis, a chronic inflammatory disorder of the esophagus (the tube that connects the mouth to the stomach) can also be cured with cow’s milk elimination.

Normally children with Eosinophilic esophagitis are treated by coating their throats with steroids to knock down their immune response.

With most people being lactose intolerant after weaning, there are some highly nutritious plant-based milk options including:

  • Almond milk:  A cup of almond milk contains 39 calories, 1g of protein, and 2.5 g of fat.
  • Soy milk: A cup of one of soy milk contains 80 calories, 7g of protein, and 4g of fat.
  • Coconut milk: A cup of fortified coconut milk contains 74 calories, less than 1 g of protein, and 5 g of fat.
  • Rice milk: A cup of rice milk contains 113 calories, less than 1 g of protein, and over 2 g of fat.
