Chiropractor Sharpsburg GA - Chiropractic Care and Reduced Opioid Prescriptions

OpioidIn this weeks video health tip, Dr. Matthew Davis, director of Crossroads Chiropractic, takes a look at how chiropractic care is contributing to a 50% reduction in opioid prescriptions.

A recent study by the Yale School of Medicine found chiropractic care is contributing toward a 50% reduction in opioid prescriptions issued in the United States.

Clinical guidelines in the U.S. now recommend many non-pharmacological options, including chiropractic care, to be considered as ‘front line’ treatments ahead of any medication, including opioids.

Chiropractors provide many of the treatments currently advised by clinical guidelines for the initial care of lower back and neck pain, as well as osteoarthritis of the hips, knees, and hands, which may otherwise be treated with opioid medication.

U.S. Congress also passed new opioid legislation directing the Department of Health and Human Services to review its payment policies so that doctors are no longer encouraged to prescribe opioids over more conservative options, such as chiropractic care.

Making chiropractic care part of your health maintenance plan will help you live a long, active, pain-free life.
