Spinal Decompression Therapy

Spinal Decompression Therapy

Here at Crossroads Chiropractic, we constantly seek the latest in cutting edge technology to be able to offer you services to improve your quality of life. One of these additions is Spinal Decompression Therapy. Over 100 million North Americans suffer from chronic pain, and an estimated 75 to 85 percent will experience some form of back pain during their lifetime.

Back pain is the leading cause of disability in those under 45 years of age. The total annual costs of low-back pain in the United States including lost wages and reduced productivity are more than $100 billion.  Thankfully, there is a non surgical drug free treatment option, Spinal Decompression Therapy.

Spinal decompression therapy is an FDA approved non-surgical therapy used to treat:

  • Back pain, neck pain, and sciatica ( pain, weakness, or tingling extending down the leg)
  • Bulging or herniated discs
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Worn spinal joints (called posterior facet syndrome)
  • Failed back surgery
  • Injured or diseased spinal nerve roots and more

ARE ALL SPINAL DECOMPRESSION THERAPY UNITS THE SAME?

No-Not all mechanical traction devices are not the same. The Chattanooga Triton Traction system that Crossroads Chiropractic offers sets the standard. With the Triton Progressive Therapeutic Rehabilitation System, Chattanooga has introduced a new generation of innovative traction devices that mimic the intricate nuances of the manual therapist’s hands, thereby expanding the features of modern day traction.

HOW DOES SPINAL DECOMPRESSION THERAPY WORK?

Spinal decompression therapy gently pulls on the spine, slowly extending the spine allowing the disc to go back into place, positively impacting the nerves and decreasing pain.  This change takes the pressure off the spinal discs gel-like cushions between the bones in your spine by creating negative pressure in the disc.

As a result, bulging or herniated discs may retract, taking pressure off nerves and other structures in your spine. Decompression also allows for oxygen, fluids, and nutrients to flow back into the areas aiding in the healing process.

CLINICAL BENEFITS OF DECOMPRESSION THERAPY:

  • Decreased pain
  • Decreased muscle tone
  • Increased range of motion
  • Increased flexibility
  • Reduced edema
  • Reduced disc herniation
  • Relieve nerve root compression

WHAT DOES THE RESEARCH SHOW:

The results of a clinical study published in Orthopedic Technology Review evaluating the effect of spinal decompression on symptoms and physical findings of 219 patients with herniated and degenerative disc disease showed:

  • 86% of the 219 patients who completed the therapy reported immediate resolution of symptoms
  • 84% of patients remained pain-free 90 days post-treatment.
  • Physical examination findings showed improvement in 92% of the 219 patients
  • 89% of these patient’s improvement remained intact 90 days after treatment.

Research continues to support Spinal Decompression Therapy offers promising long-lasting results for the effective management of patients with chronic back and neck pain.

One of the greatest benefits of chiropractic care is that it is a drug-free path to healing the body naturally.
