How We Select an Adjusting Technique
At Crossroads Chiropractic, the technique used for an adjustment is selected from your health history, examination findings, areas of restricted joint motion, comfort level, and goals. Some patients prefer traditional hands-on adjusting, while others prefer a lower-force or instrument-assisted approach. We explain the proposed technique and can adapt positioning and force when appropriate.
Adjusting Techniques We May Use
Diversified Adjusting: Diversified is a hands-on technique that uses a quick, controlled, low-amplitude movement directed to a specific spinal or extremity joint. When examination findings indicate that it is appropriate, the goal is to improve joint motion and reduce mechanical restriction. The position, direction, and amount of force are chosen for the area being treated and the patient’s comfort. A popping sound may occur when gas shifts within a joint, but that sound is not required for an effective adjustment.
Activator Method: The Activator Method uses a small handheld instrument to deliver a brief, targeted, low-force impulse to a joint. It can be considered for patients who prefer an instrument-assisted approach or when a lighter amount of force is appropriate. The location and settings are selected from the examination rather than applied the same way to every patient.
Thompson Drop-Table Technique: A Thompson-style table has sections that move a short distance during an adjustment. This movement can reduce the amount of force needed while allowing the doctor to address a specific joint. Positioning and technique are adjusted to the patient’s comfort and examination findings. Torque Release Technique: Torque Release uses a handheld instrument called an Integrator to deliver a quick, controlled impulse to a targeted area. It is another lower-force option that may be considered based on the examination and the patient’s preferences. Learn more about Torque Release.
MC2 Technique: MC2 is a light-touch approach that uses gentle contacts along the spine. It may be considered for patients who prefer a lighter technique. As with every method used at Crossroads Chiropractic, the recommendation depends on the patient’s symptoms, examination findings, comfort, and response to care. Learn more about MC2.
Your Preferences Matter
If you have received chiropractic care before and prefer a particular technique, tell Dr. Samir. We will consider your preferences, explain the proposed approach, and discuss reasonable alternatives before treatment. Chiropractic care may be one part of a broader conservative-care plan, and we will recommend imaging, another service, or referral when appropriate.
