Chiropractor Sharpsburg GA - Frozen Shoulder Syndrome

Frozen Shoulder SyndromeIn this weeks video health tip, Dr. Matthew Davis, director of Crossroads Chiropractic, takes a look at some research that in treating frozen shoulder syndrome, chiropractic adjustments may just give you the results you are looking for.

Frozen shoulder syndrome is a common condition, you may know someone or possibly experienced it yourself. It is often one of the more difficult shoulder conditions to diagnose and provide quality care that delivers good outcomes.

Frozen shoulder syndrome affects 2% to 5% of the general population and is said to be “a condition characterized by functional restriction of both active and passive shoulder motion.”

Typically seen in those ages 40 and 60, and is 3 to 7 times more prevalent in women than men.

Frozen shoulder syndrome may be the primary diagnosis if no history of causative factors can be determined, or a secondary when the syndrome appears to develop following a trauma or systemic condition such as diabetes, Parkinson disease, cardiovascular disease, thyroid disease, and stroke.

Conventional medical treatment of frozen shoulder syndrome is the prescribing of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, administering steroid injection or possibly shoulder surgery.

Care provided by physical therapists include moist heat, ultrasonography, passive stretching, and shoulder mobilization.

Patients may experience some relief when treated by these various methods, while others suffer from residual pain and reduced shoulder function even several years after treatment.

A study of 50 patients with frozen shoulder syndrome receiving chiropractic adjustments showed promising results.

Of the 50 patients, 16 showed 100% improvement, 25 showed 75% to 90% improvement, 8 showed 50% to 75% improvement, and 1 showed 0% to 50% improvement.
